How the Turkish Expats Voted in Constitutional Referendum


“The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers.” These are the lines from a poem by the pan-Turkic author Ziya Gokalp which Erdogan publicly recited in 1998, for which he later received a jail sentence. He read the same poem at Turkish parliament in 2011, when he was serving as a prime minister.
